CHILD DAY CARE PROGRAMS NOW ELIGIBLE FOR STATE ASSISTANCE

Governor Cuomo announced that $65 million in federal CARES Act funding is available for child care providers throughout New York State. The goal is to provide incentives for closed day care centers to reopen, and for centers that are still open to increase their capacity.

$20 million is available to assist with reopening and expansion by helping fund more socially distant models, such as by the purchase of partitions or short term rentals of space. One-time grants range from $300 to $1,600.

$45 million is available to pay for 50% of the cost of opening a closed or new classroom, capped at $6,000.

To be eligible for funding, programs must have either been closed as of June 15 and have a plan to reopen within two weeks of applying, or are currently operating below their licensed capacity and would like to expand. Programs must submit a detailed plan for use of funds and must remain open at least through the end of the year. Grants will be pro-rated as programs reach capacity.

Child care programs have until July 15 to submit applications to the State Office of Children and Family Services.
