Michael L. Carey Elected President Mid Hudson Bankruptcy Bar Association

Jacobowitz and Gubits, LLP, is proud to announce the election of Partner, Michael L. Carey to President of the Mid Hudson Bankruptcy Bar Association. Mr. Carey has been a member for years and past Vice President.

In his letter to the association Mr. Carey expressed his intentions for the Mid-Hudson Bankruptcy Bar Association for the year 2002. Late April, early May will focus on matrimonial and it's intertwinings with bankruptcy and an update on "the bill." Eugene R. Wedoff, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Illinois (Chicago) has stated that he would love to come and speak before the association.

Mr. Carey is also working on several "workshop/seminars" to be held on various Fridays in the Bankruptcy Court to help obtain the CLE status, long awaited for.

Mr. Carey's primary area of practice has been Senior Associate, and now Partner, of the Business Team of Jacobowitz and Gubits, LLP. His principal areas of practice have been in all aspects of Chapter 11, 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy. He is primarily responsible for representing both debtors and creditors and is an experienced bankruptcy and commercial litigator.

He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association, New York County Lawyers Association, Ulster County Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association and New Jersey State Bar Association.

As special counsel to the Mid-Hudson Legal Services on bankruptcy matters, Mr. Carey received the 1997 Pro Bono Award from the Orange County Bar Association. In May 1998 he was guest speaker at the New York State County Lawyers Association to discuss "Bankruptcy and the Municipality."

Mr. Carey is a 1984 graduate of Seton Hall University and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1987 from Seton Hall University. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1991 and the New Jersey Bar in 1987, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey.
