Scholarship Awarded at Wallkill River School

Montgomery, NY-Lucky artist Elizabeth Torrence was awarded an Emerging Artist scholarship today through the Orange County Arts Council. This scholarship allows Torrence the opportunity to mentor with established artists, put together her own bio and portfolio, and have a solo show next year in the art gallery. The scholarship was made possible by a corporate contribution from Jacobowitz and Gubits LLP to the O.C.A.C. Torrence, a Senior artist from the Montgomery community, will be exhibiting her African-influenced colorful paintings in June 2012.

The Wallkill River School is a nonprofit arts organization located in the historic Patchett House at 232 Ward St. (17K) in Montgomery. Founded in 2001, the WRS has been called "Orange County's First Homegrown Arts Movement." Over the years, the number of artists has grown to include a diverse group both demographically & stylistically. Now with memberships reaching over 120, the group has become an organized art movement. The WRS and its events strive to be zero waste, handicapped-accessible, and carbon neutral.

The Orange County Arts Council's mission is to strengthen the arts in Orange County by providing educational, promotional, and information services. The Council accomplishes this by coordinating and facilitating relationships among the arts, schools, businesses, government, and the public.
