Brian Morgan Rejoins Jacobowitz & Gubits

Recently Served as Corporation Counsel for City of Poughkeepsie

Walden, N.Y. (January 18, 2012) - Jacobowitz & Gubits is pleased to announce that Brian Morgan has rejoined the firm as Senior Counsel. Mr. Morgan most recently served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Poughkeepsie, serving in that post from 2008 through 2011. As Corporation Counsel, he was the chief counsel to the Mayor and the Mayor's administration, the head of the Law Department, and manager of the city's litigation files and the law firms and staff assigned to defend the city in litigation.

Mr. Morgan will continue his practice in the areas of municipal law, land use development and other related areas of practice for the firm.

About Brian Morgan

G. Brian Morgan is Senior Counsel to the law firm of Jacobowitz and Gubits, LLP, located in Walden, in Orange County, New York. His practice is in municipal law, land use development law and related areas of practice.

In his recent post as chief counsel to the City of Poughkeepsie, Mr. Morgan represented the City in court, negotiated labor agreements with public employee unions, prosecuted disciplinary actions of city employees, defended the city against employee grievances, drafted legislation and legal opinions, and assisted the Mayor with economic development initiatives, contract administration and grant writing. Corporation Counsel prosecutes code violations in Poughkeepsie City Court. Corporation Counsel defends the city against claims for damages and suits for damages. The Law Department additionally represents the Poughkeepsie Housing Authority and the Industrial Development Agency.

Previously, Mr. Morgan was associated with Van DeWater and Van DeWater of Poughkeepsie, Jacobowitz and Gubits, LLP and the Dutchess County District Attorney.

Mr. Morgan has additionally served as Town Attorney of the Town of Hyde Park; Attorney for the Village of Maybrook; Acting Town Attorney and Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of Poughkeepsie; Special Counsel for the Town of Poughkeepsie, and has served as attorney for numerous other municipalities in the Hudson Valley, including Towns of Fishkill, Washington, La Grange, Goshen, Tuxedo, Pleasant Valley, Plattekill and Chester.

G. Brian Morgan is past president of the Dutchess County Bar Association. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation. He has served as Vice-Chairman on the Board of Directors of the Dutchess County Arts Council. In 2011, Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress named Mr. Morgan a Pattern for Progress Fellow, based on his professional achievements in support of the decontamination and redevelopment of urban waterfronts along the Hudson River.

Mr. Morgan was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1983. In 2001 Mr. Morgan was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States' in 1984 he was admitted to practice in the federal District Courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He has the degree of Juris Doctor awarded to him from New York Law School.

Mr. Morgan has a BA degree from Marist College. He resides in the Town of Hyde Park in Dutchess County.
